Congratulations Spencer!
CI of the Year Award
The CI of the Year Award is given to a clinical instructor who not only demonstrates clinical excellence, but also teaching excellence by conscientiously developing an effective learning environment for the student PTA.
This award is given annually at each GaitWay celebration to recognize the clinical instructor who goes above and beyond to maximize clinical learning.
The CI of the Year Award is being given this year to Spencer McCombs, a physical therapist who obtained his license in 2005, and is a certified Manual Therapist. He owns 2 outpatient clinics (one in Levelland and one in Lubbock), and specialized in chronic pain, mind-body therapy, spine and extremity mobilization, and soft tissue manipulation.
Spencer has been very supportive of the SPC PTA Program. In fact, he approached South Plains College and suggested that a PTA Program be developed to address the community’s need! He worked with the President of the College and grant-writer to establish the need and satisfy criteria to get the PTA Program up and running. He was an initial Advisory Board member and has provided mentorship to faculty, volunteers, and students since Day 1.
Here is what past students who he has worked with have said about him:
“He would challenge me to learn and discover on my own when he questioned me. He would never let me say, “I don’t know”. He always let me figure it out then bring the answers and questions back to him.”
“He pushed me out of my comfort zone so that I could learn new things and challenge myself to continue my growth. He provided positive and constructive feedback to me and allowed time for me to ask questions.”
On behalf of the Physical Therapist Assistant Student Association, it is my honor to present the 2019 CI of the Year Award to Spencer McCombs
